Elephantopus scaber
Elephantopus scaber, which is known as prickly-leaves
elephant's foot or di dan tou in
Chinese, has a multitude of health benefits
including wound-healing, fever,
dysuria, hepatoprotective, anticancer, antidiabetic, and anti-inflammatory
activities (Singh et al., 2005; Daisy et al., 2009; Ho et al., 2009, 2012; Chan et al., 2015). According to the Journal of Medicinal Plant
Research, E.Scaber had been used in traditional medicine to reduce fever, eliminate
bladder stones as well as treat nephritis, chest pain, pneumonia, scabies,
arthralgia and leukaemia. Apart from its use as traditional medicine, this
plant is also suitable for cooking soups, Di dan tou soup is a common dish on
the dining table in my family, to cook soups I use the whole of this plant
including the roots.
